The Bottom Line Duo: Special Guests at our Celebrate America Concert

Master Chorus Eastside often has special guests at our Independence celebrations, and this year we are delighted to welcome The Bottom Line Duo, a husband/wife team, Traci and Spencer Hoveskeland, I heard at a Seattle taping of my favorite NPR radio show, Says You.  I was charmed by their incredible musicianship and their delightful sense of fun, so I asked them if they would appear with us, and they agreed!

They are one of only three internationally touring bass and cello duos in history!  Traci plays cello and Spencer plays bass—well, he also sometimes plays ukulele, an interesting juxtaposition of instruments!  They play chamber music in a myriad of styles, everything from The Flight of the Bumblebee at warp speed (imagine that on low-string instruments) to Ozzy Osbourne (imagine that on low-string instruments!).

They are a little hard to describe, so here is a sample of the two in action.

And I can’t resist the ukulele!

An added treat: we will premier a piece written just for MCE by Spencer, accompanied by the two of them.  I understand it will include a recitation of the names of all fifty states!

You’ll just have to come and see them to appreciate their artistry in both music and humor.  Plus, with Spencer’s Norwegian heritage, they fit right into our American Melting Pot theme.

As one of our members said to me, “The Independence concert will never be the same.”
